Manual Handling

This course is for staff and students, and is delivered by the Health & Safety Unit. This half-day course is aimed at those who carry out manual handling activities at work.
The course introduces delegates to the hazards of manual handling, the risks involved, the controls available and what to expect from a manual handling assessment.

Successful completion will prepare participants to look carefully at their own work activities and contribute to the development of safer methods and tasks, in co-operation with their managers and supervisors.

This course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environment Health (CIEH). Delegates will be able to sit a short end of course assessment, successful completion of which will mean delegates will be awarded with the CIEH Principles of Manual Handling certificate.

Outcomes :

By the end of the course, participants should:
  • understand the process of manual handling in the workplace
  • recognise manual handling injuries and the activities which cause them
  • understand the responsibilities imposed by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations.
